Ljubljana RIPE 64 Meeting Will Bring Together International Internet Experts

Tuesday, 10. 4. 2012 11:42

Internet Service Providers (ISPs), government representatives and technical experts from research networks will have the opportunity to discuss the latest developments in IP networking and policy development at the RIPE 64 Meeting to be held at the Grand Union Hotel, Ljubljana from 16 – 20 April 2012. This will be the first time that a RIPE Meeting has been held in Slovenia.

RIPE Meetings have played a central role in the development of the Internet in Europe and surrounding areas for more than twenty years. In recent years RIPE Meetings have attracted more than 400 Internet experts from more than 30 countries, bringing together the working groups and decision-makers who help shape the future of the Internet.

RIPE 64 will bring this important Internet forum to Ljubljana, which will become the 21st European city since 1989 to host this important meeting. The meeting will be hosted by The Academic and Research Network of Slovenia (ARNES), Go6 and the Laboratory for Telecommunications Faculty of Electrical Engineering (LFTE).

As with all RIPE Meetings, RIPE 64 will bring together key industry players, network operators, governments and regulators to discuss the technical, administrative and policy issues at the heart of IP networking today. RIPE Meetings are also the forum where more than ten RIPE Working Groups meet to discuss topics ranging from tackling hacking and other cyber-crime to the run-out of IPv4 address space, the deployment of IPv6 and the latest Internet measurements.

RIPE 64 will also feature tutorials focused on ways of certifying address space and debugging the Domain Name Service (DNS), and Internet experts presenting on issues such as Internet peering, DNS Security (DNSSEC) and cooperation between governments and the technical community. As with previous RIPE Meetings, RIPE 64 is where the key players in today’s Internet meet to discuss current challenges and to develop solutions that will shape the future of the Internet.

“RIPE Meetings play a key role in the development of the Internet and the way it is managed and structured,” said Axel Pawlik, Managing Director, RIPE NCC. “In our efforts to encourage active participation throughout the RIPE community, we are very happy to have the opportunity of holding RIPE 64 in Slovenia. I am looking forward to a very productive meeting in Ljubljana”.
